Farmers from around the world gathered virtually on the 3rd of November 2020 for the Farms.com Precision Ag 101 Webinar, the first of a free webinar series for farmers who are interested in learning the economic benefits of precision agriculture and how to implement it quickly and efficiently. The series is part of the 2020 Farms.com Virtual Precision Agriculture Conference & Ag Technology Showcase.

Precision agriculture is a farming concept based on utilizing geographic information systems, navigation systems and some other analytical tools for managing intra- and inter-field variability.

The webinar covered many key concepts from zone management to variable rate application and data management to the various tools and technology involved in the industry.

During the Q&A session the two speakers, Alex Melnitchouck, Chief Technology Officer at Olds College, and Dr. Xin (Rex) Sun, highlighted that the main pain points when it comes to implementing precision agriculture techniques are the lack of automation, the high costs of the technology for the farmers and the lack of high-speed broadband Internet in rural areas (a must to invest in).
